Chances are she will now goto trial. In my state the adult age is 17, but it looks like she will be tried in Juvenile Court, and the charge might get expunged or sealed when she becomes an adult.

Chances are if she was arrested for aggravated battery, and not confered upon you(the parent) the adult age in your state is 17. If she gets a public defender(Or defense attorney) they can make a deal for her charge to be confered to a misdemeanor(If she's lucky). The felony arrest will always show on her record, and NCIC or LEIN.

Unfortunately, every minute and every day...people expect children to be accountable for themselves and their actions and be genius's as well. She is at the mercy of the DA's office. Get her an atty. Get anything and everything that makes her look like this was a one time thing. I wish you told what the battery was about it may make a difference. If they push it and she is found guilty its a felony and a few years in prison.

A hearing will be set for her case just like MTV's "juvies" programme.
However,it depends on the progress the victim makes. It her health deteriotes, your daughter's charges will progress. In serious cases, she could spend the her 18th birthday in Juvi and then have an adult trial.

Despite what some might think, a 17 year old knows what she is doing, and should be accountable for her actions, especially if someone was hurt because of them.

There is a chance they could try her as an adult, if they do, it will stay on her record.

Also, even if she doesn't get prison time, she will be excluded from any state or federal job. This include the military, Coast Guard, and Peace Corps. Serious situation.

I'd try her as an adult and give full custodial sentances for any violent crimes. Only one year off an adult so hardly a "juvenile".

Hopefully, this may be a wake up call for her, but YOU need to step in and re-enforce it.

She needs to get into a Violence Prevention program, or therapy, or some sort of intervention.

Will she be on parole? If so, talk to her parole officer about this.

If not, look in your phone book, and find an appropriate service to help you to get her some help.

Find out when visitation days are and go see her on those days. She's where she needs to be if she's that violent.

Juveniles commit felonies every day.

at 17 they can try her as an adult, so just being 17 does not mean it will go to Juv court.

This is very serious, it can mean years in prison.
