I have a boy and a girl pitbull. I have had them both since they were 12weeks. They are about 9mths now and they are not getting along any more. The girl wants to fight the boy on site. How can I fix this? I want to keep them both, but we don't have a happy home here any more. HELP!!!

Many pit bulls have dog aggression because of the fact that they were originally fighting dogs. They may get along as puppies but sometimes they just change their mind and don't like other dogs as an adult. This could be because of family history or how they are socialized. Being that they are such powerful dogs, I wouldn't want to try to risk a big fight between them, so I, personally, would find one of them a new home. :(

Have you had them spayed and neutered? That would be the first thing to do. In my experience, this young adult kind of aggression can worsen until they are about 18-24 months old. You will need to learn techniques to help them past this, or find a home for one of the dogs. These are dogs bred to fight each other, so it shouldn't be a total shock to you that they acting in accordance with their genetic heritage.

My best advice is to join the Yahoo Group called agbeh and read their files, past posts and find a good dog behaviorist to help you. The moderators on that group can give you names of people in your area. These are people who use positive reinforcement. They aren't mean.

Good luck! It is very difficult to live in a house where the dogs fight. I know from experience. Once we had to go to the vet twice, that was it for us. One dog found a new home.

if one os food possessive no food should be left laying out , you may have to seperate them when you are preparing meal for yourself and when you eat and seperate when they eat.

Some are toy possessive, if one of yours are seperate them when giving toys to play with, at the end of playtime, pick up all toys and put away

How you relate treat the dogs may be part of the problem
this link explain reasons for sibling rivalries, for example problems can occur if you treat dogs the dogs as equals

Just be patient and let them see more of each other. Eventually, they will get along. Give them a toy they both want, then they both will fight for it then share it. The key here: patience.
