My sister committed suicide and I don't believe for one minute that there is a "God" cruel enough to condemn her to more misery. I am so sorry you have lost someone to suicide. It's very painful and leaves us empty with lots of unanswered questions.

It's hard to say, since the Bible is vague regarding suicide. There are only a few mentions of it, and these people were disobedient. (See Samson, Saul & his armor-bearer, Zimri, Abimelech, and Judas.)
On one hand, if the person trusted in Jesus as Lord, why would they despair, if everything that happens is filtered through Him? God is sovereign, and allows circumstances into our lives to mold and shape us into what He wants us to become.
On the other hand, no one truly knows the heart, and therefore, we don't know if a person is saved when they despair to the point of suicide. We can, however, trust in the character of a loving and merciful God.

I do think that God will forgive suicide. That being said though, it is dependent on the purpose, intent, and heart of the person. Our time here on earth is hard, but God didnt create us so that we would give up, we must endure to the end. Suicide is not enduring to the end, and therefore goes against God's teachings. If you know it is wrong and then still do it, I think you will still be accountable. But it is up to God's judgement wether he will be saved.

im not a christian personally but if i were then i would say that god would forgive suicide, becuase even though we are lucky to be alive, we never asked to be born, and some people are born from all the wrong reasons and into the wrong situations which can cause a lot of problems in later life, some people are just so unhappy which is terribly sad and they should not be punished for killing themselves, even tho it is selfish it is still achoice and if that person feels that there is no way out then killing themesleves is there only soloution then so bit it!

I am so sorry for your loss and the tremedous pain you must be feeling.
This was actually something I discussed with my minister recently during a bible study session. I belong to pretty fundamentalist church and we concluded that we will never know for sure and that the Bible says it's wrong, but we don't feel that God would condemn someone who couldn't control what they were doing i.e. mental illness, etc.
At this point, pray that his belief in God will take him to heaven. Prayer and staying close to family is the best way for you to cope with your tragic loss.
Take care:)

Yes, I would think so. Isn't it all about your sins being washed away after accepting Christ as your saviour with all your heart? The way I was told by people who taught me what I know of the faith, the mistakes we make after our repentance are unavoidable (we sometimes will) but once we're "in", there's no going back out. They used this analogy: Suppose I get a 1000000 speeding ticket, Jesus could walk in and pay it off, just like that. So, what I understand from these very religious people is that Jesus will save us despite our moral failures, because we accepted him as our saviour with all our heart? :)

>>This is a good question and one that I have always wondered about. Is it murder of oneself? I think there is only the one unpardonable sin and murder is not it(it is denying the Holy Spirit), it would be forgivable. However, since you are no longer able to repent, how do you ask forgiveness??
Jacob, I am sorry to hear about your brother! My sister attempted this last year, but failed in her attempt. God Bless!

There is no reason whatsoever to believe that if a person commits suicide they are automatically condemned to hell. That is a catholic doctrine and certainly is not presented in the Bible. If you believe that you would have to believe that every single sin you commit would have to be confessed in order to be forgiven and that simply would be impossible. No one would be able to go to heaven. I had a friend who was a very godly man who committed suicide and I am absolutely convinced that he is in heaven today. The Bible actually makes the statement that " God is not unjust so as to forget your former commitments". Those who believe in Jesus Christ as their lord and savior have eternal life no matter what circumstances they die under.

My best friend committed suicide. She was a devout Christian. I am an atheist. Because I knew it was important to her that her god accept her, I hope that she left the world without fear. Since I don't believe in god at all, all I can really say is that she is deceased and therefore not feeling the pain she was feeling while she was alive. That was the whole reason she killed herself in the first place and she reached that goal... because her life was too hard for her to deal with. Of course, I wish she could have stayed awhile and I know things could have gotten better for her with time, but I can't be angry at her or judge her for wanting to stop feeling agony and leaving her life.

my friend and i were debating this because a friend of the family who was like a brother to her did the same thing this month. I cant say i know for sure. But i believe that you can repent after death, thats why we all have to wait for judgement day, instead of being judged at the time of our death. its just a theory but i feel that way
