Parakeet death?

Bizarre story. My parakeet was fine yesterday and died today. Any ideas?

birds are good at masking their problems. In the wild is a bird demonstrates a weakened condition; it is a dead bird.

It could have been hurt earlier, it sould have been sick with something.

It may have just been it't time to die.

etc.

Fumes from a burning pan, cleaning chemicals, or ingesting a leaf from a plastic plant... there are lots of things that will cause a parakeet to die without obvious cause.

Birds such as parakeets and finches were kept in mines because the birds would die with the least exposure to dangerous gases. If the birds dropped dead, the miners knew to leave. So, they are REALLY sensitive to certain chemicals. But, if your bird gets time out of the cage, it might have nibbled on something it shouldn't have.

That happened to me too. Could be any number of things, a new chemical used in the house, furnace giving off carbon monoxide, or in the case of mine, old age. Birds hide signs of illness very well as other birds would essentially beat them to death....

they can die very quickly. Sometimes if frightened they will break their neck by smacking into the side of the cage.

Clean the cage very well before getting another bird.

if you were feeding it grit that could be part of the problem. they are parrots and do not need it. it may have had a seizure or was sick. bird will always hide their illnesses until they are very sick.
