Take a look at EyeLovesJesus's answer to my question, and then explain to me why *she* could give me a nice, loving response when other Christians told me I was going to burn in hell?

What does that say about them? Do they think hateful words will make me want to convert so I can be just like them?

I hope I do not embarrass you by singling you out my friend, but you are a wonderful example to me of what I (for whatever my opinion is worth, LOL!) think a Christian should be.

Kudos to ELJ, but you were really unlucky with some of those answers - it's obviously some church's annual mean-spiritedness night. It was a nice question and ELJ lived up to form and gave her usual loving response. If those others had any shame they would see her answer and reach for the cilice with regretful tears in their eyes. Or even better, they would simply stop being such hateful scum and scuttle off quietly somewhere to do some actual good in the world. As EyeLovesJesus manages to do with a few simple words.

I can tell you without looking. Because she is consistently trying to be what she believes instead of attempting to make others be what she believes. You are also correct that fundamentalists promote disbelief not Christianity. If I were an atheist i would donate money to their churches for helping spread my beliefs. But I am not an atheist so I usually try to stay away from those guys to avoid being associated with them. I believe God is Love. Peace be with you

Well Chicky,

I am sorry you had to endure that and it sounds like you have a good friend. One who is truly Christian. The only reason I can give you for the others acting like they did, they are not what they profess to be. Very few people actually understand their religion and even less actually follow it. Take them for what they are, unknowledgable and try not to let them disturb you.

For all of their answers, please accept my apologies.

PS. . . the fact that they would want to convert you shows the number one sign right there they are not really Christian, the tenent of the faith is to love everyone like God loves everyone. As they are and with nothing required of them "to earn their love".

Hmmmm is it me. I couldn't find her response at the link.

In any event, Eileen, I'm glad you found her response something to be happy about.

I agree, hateful words get us nowhere... on either side. There's no reason views can't be exchanged without insulting the "other side" or trying to make them feel inferior.

Have a great day. :-)

I don't have to look, I know very well what you are talking about. I am a Christian and have tried to get this message out to those who are Christians that this is not for us to judge, nor is it how you would lead someone to Christ. I would like to express my apologies for such poor portrays and examples. May God Bless you and show you his truth and may God convict the hearts of those who show intolerance and impatience and hatred to those that are searching or asking.

I don't think Christians ( for the most part ) are giving you what you consider "unloving" answers because we are necessarily trying to convert you. It is what we honestly believe. If you don't want us to be truthful about our beliefs then don't read our answers, or, don't ask us religious questions. Christians differ in their faith - we don't all believe the same things. If you think we're being hateful then that's your perception and that is fine. We are Christians because we believe in something, or more importantly in Someone. Along with that belief comes faith in what that Person taught. I don't hate atheist or unbelievers and I don't disrespect their experiences. But that doesn't mean I am going to tell them what I believe to be lies regarding their religion ( or lack of ). It's not being hateful, it's stating a belief. Hate the sin but not the sinner. You can criticize that all you want ( and I'm sure you will ) but it's simply a matter of religion. And we already know that you disagree with the Christian religion, so this argument is moot.

Justa thought which leads me to a question?
Do you base your opinion on what a Christian should be on what you've heard or what you've gleaned from scipture?

Joel Osteen (Houston, TX) is a very famous preacher that tells everybody that he loves them and that we're all going to heaven.

If your house was burning in the middle of the night and I came by to say "I love you"; but, didn't warn you of the impending danger...would I still be nice in your eyes?

it is because you love someone that you would tell them that their house is on fire.

Case in point... I and another driver were talking on the C. B. Radio one night while driving through AL.. the driver had just come off of the side of the road near a house that was on fire. he had stopped to wake the people in the house whebn he saw flames near their chimney on the roof. How does this tie into the subject...the druiver revealed to me that the people would not believe him..even went so far as to slam the door in his face (they couln't smell or see any smoke/fire) it wasn't until further attempts that the man of the house finally came outside to see the fire for himself that he summoned his wife to flee the house. I doubt they would have been so thankful to him if he had just said "I love you, anyways" and left at their first refusal to accept the truth.

Just a little food for thought.

I agree it was very sweet. Some christians don't know how to respond to other faiths. Please don't base your opinions on how they answer. Some christians aren't true christians, some are angry at the way we are portrayed. We are taught to love all people, no matter what the believe, and to share our faith. Just remember that just because we are christians, we are still human.

That's how all christians should respond to people, with love, because Jesus loves everyone.
As Christians we represent Christ, and we need to be careful how we answer someone's question.
I just answered someone else's question and told them, "something we say might change someone's life."

Love and Peace in Christ
