Eating three meals a day. Healthy well balanced meals is good for you and will help you lose weight more quickly then any faddy diet ever will.
Exercise needs to be increased gradually if you have not done any for some time. Dont go mad to start out with, walk an extra 15 mins a day to start with, increasing steadily. You do need to walk quite fast to get warm!! If you suffer no adverse effects you increase the amount of exercise that you do. Regular exercise is good for your heart, your mental well being etc. Ideally you should aim for at least one hour a day - but not if you are unfit. Start gently and build up.
Good luck.

I under stand how you feel and think some of what you say is true. If you are worried then go and see you GP first and explain that you are wanting to lose weight and what advice can he give you. I think the best thing with exercise is little and often to start with until you get abit fitter and can build up a regular pace of exercising but the worst thing you can do is worry about it. I'm on a diet at the moment and i have cut out all carbs till I'm the weight I want to be and then I start to eat carbs again but not as much as i used to. I also do an hour and half exercises every other day so far lost stone and half in 6 weeks hope it helps good luck

No need to worry this much. Diet and exercise done in moderation has great long term effects.
Karen Carpenter had health problems due to anorexia, which caused long term health issues. Then a sudden weight gain caused strain on her heart. Medications she took also caused her heart to weaken.
She did not die simply because of diet and exercise.... she died because of her poor eating habits and what I'm assuming was "excess" of exercise.
Again, moderate, healthy diet and exercise will be beneficial to you. The best thing you can do is see a doctor regularly and find out what good eating habits are for you, and they will also be able to help you know what to do to prevent heart disease to the best of your ability.

it's not so complicated like you are making out. i started going to the gym 3/4 times a week at the beginning of the year. when i first started 15 minutes on the treadmill killed me and that was just walking. i now only use the cross trainer for 45 minutes to an hour and feel great at the end of it. the hardest thing is actually getting up and doing it and staying there. i see so many overweight women come into the gym, they walk on the treadmill for 5 minutes then go to the bar for a capuccino and doughnut. obviously this doesn't work. you've got to sweat and for at least 20 mins 3 times a week.

Don't panic! I had the same dilemma or at least similar. I found a diet that has heaps of verification, most doctors love it but you must also exercise. That can just be walking for half an hour if you want. There's too much for me to place in a comments box so I have included the url in the source box below.
Hope this helps.

Surely you don't really believe that your life as an overweight couch potato is the healthier choice?
You really need to take steps to improve your lifestyle or both heart disease and diabetes will indeed statistically loom on the horizon.
People just don't suddenly get fit, they have to start somewhere and put some effort in to it.
If you need more reassurance that you need to get up off the couch see your GP. Get him to organise a dietetic referral, give you a once over and confirm you are fit enough to do exercise. Anyone can do some!! Join a gym and get some advise from a trainer, he will start you on a program from scratch. Stop trying to fool yourself by making excuses that result in you doing nothing, I at least will give you no support for that choice.

Ok--sounds to me like someone is a little paranoid. Healthy means healthy. As long as you don't starve yourself, it's BETTER FOR YOU to be on a healthy, calorie-controlled diet with lots of exercise and fresh air. Just don't overdo it and go anorexic. Eat at least two meals every day.

i defnitly think youre going the right way about losing weight. if youre concerned youre going to be harming yourself rather than helpin yourself at the gym start off just doing 30 mins a session then builidng it up as you feel your fitness levels increasing. also you could do 30 mins cardio one session and the next session concentrate on resistance training. Exercise aslong as you dont over do it or have any health problems before you start will be a good thing.

I am no expert dieter. My wife and I are in our mid 40's and are currently on a low carb style diet. We have lost about 3-4kgs. in two weeks each. We stay away from white foods, milk, bread, pasta, and fattening foods. Eat meat, poultry, bacon, vegetables, fruit. I had lost about 30lbs. (14kg.) in about 30 days about 3 years ago. Of course gained it back as I had reached a plateau. I now know I can go off it for a few days to reach the next plateau. I don't feel bloated on this diet and I don't feel I am cheating myself out of anything I would like. Starving yourself I not a good idea. If you do that your body shuts down and tends to go into survival mode and you don't loose the weight as quickly as you would like.
