My dog is 6 month black lab. I would love to be able to let him hang outside when it's warm for an hour or two on his own. Currently, we have a chain for him in the yard, since we don't have a fenced in area. We will be moving soon and don't want to put up a fence. So, what would you suggest we do for puppy when it's nice enough for him to be left outside when it's nice out? This is my first dog, I've had cats before. I've heard about kennels and found this thing called an exercise pen. I'm not sure about either and would like someone with more puppy experience to help me. Thanks for your answers in advance. My dog loves to lay in the sun and I just want him to be happy this summer.

That's what we currently have for him is a stake in the ground and a long leash. But, I thought he might need something more.

Get a steak, (the kind you put into the ground) and get a long leash......i do that w/my dog and he loves it. Just be sure to put him a bowl of water near by, and maybe some shade.

You should never chain out a dog. It causes anxiety for the dog because other dogs and people can approach them but they cannot get away and they feel threatened. The Center for Disease Control did a study on dog bites and found that chainig a dog out was one of the top factors related to dog bites.

Invisible fences do not work 100% of the time - some dogs run right throrugh them and then may not come back because they don't want to get zapped again. Also, it does not keep other dogs and animals out of your yard, so it can cause some of the same problems as chaining out.

If the weather is nice, take your dog for lots of walks, but don't chain him out. When you move, get a place with a fenced yard.

Just stay in the house and make a large cage for it and whenever it want to go out to play or hang around put a very long chain on it neck so it cant be lost or steal by anybody

If you mean stay out while your gone, there is this thing called the invisible fence. I tried that and will never be guilty of it again. You can talk with a local trainer, but the best thing would be a fence.
