They bury things cos they don't want anyone in their territory to get it. They don't forget, because they have strong smell senses and they can refind it.

More times they don't want to retrieve it, they do it for the territory thing, which is silly really cos 9 times out of ten it's just humans around.

my dog will bury are shoes bones everything it can find half the stuff my dog will bury i find when i dig my garden over so i don't think she would worry that much she waits for me then after iv found it she just goes an will bury it again .

It's a trait dogs inherited from wolves . Wolves bury any food they cant eat and return later to dig it up and finish it off.But because dogs have been domesticated they don't need to hunt for food,but yet they still retain the instinct to hide various objects.

They hide things so that no one (human or animal)can find them and steal them. Also, dog use their sense of smell to relocate the things they bury, so it's doubtfull they'd forget where.

They don't remember, they sniff it out. Another dog may have found and dug it out. Your dog does not worry, he simply moves onto the next feeding opportunity, sniffing his way there.

My aunt has a 16 yr old dog he berries everything and never remembers where he put it. I don't think he cares though.

my dog does that 2 so talk 2 ur local vet she might have a serious mental problem
