I just answered a similar question the other day...Here is what I told her...
am afraid you aren't going to get Chic for under $40 a person but you can get fun. Here are some Chic restaurants in Austin, but are a little expensive.
Roy's Hawaiian Fusion
Saba
The Cafe at the Four Seasons
Eddie V's Edgewater Grill
Cool River Cafe
Jeffrey's
Louie 101
If you want fun...try something downtown OR something like Melting Pot or Dave and Busters.
Good Luck
If these don't work for you..tell us more, the price point, part of town, type of food, more of a bar?

The Melting Pot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Austin - N.W.
13343 US Highway 183N Suite 350 78750
Phone: (512) 401-2424
It is an amazing ambiance and a really fun atmosphere. You could go for dessert or for a cheese appetizer. You don't necessarily have to go for the full course menu. It offers you a variety and they do change their menus quite often, so you can be sure to be trying something new.
They have cooking techniques if you do decide to choose for a dinner. They have fun drinks that go amazing well with the fondue. Even if you aren't crazy about fondue, they have such a variety to compliment your taste. Which is perfect for a bride-to-be!!! (The deserts of course!!)
If you do plan on "The Melting Pot" a reservation is recommended. If you go after 9 PM, entrees are half off!! If you do go, I hope you have as much an amazing time as we did. The waitressing staff were nice and very informative. Especially if you're a first timer at The Melting Pot.

Trudy's Tex-Mex located at Hwy 183 and Burnet Road up in North Austin. It's fun, it's fresh, the food is superb, the drinks are good and the prices are not outrageous. It's trendy and fun. The staff there would totally cater to your batchelorette party needs.
Have a great time!

I'd go to Trudy's...but not the one mentioned in an earlier answer. I'd go to the Trudy's on 30th Street near the UT campus. Much more fun and a more lively crowd. After I'd shoot over to hte Crown & Anchor for a few more drinks and then on to the serious partying on 6th.

Try Cuba Libre off of 4th and Colorado. They have fantastic food and fabulous drinks. Try a mango mojito or a flirtini, they're SO good! They also have a back area that I'm pretty sure you can reserve, or a front area that opens up to Colorado so that you can be loud and in the open air!
