Have you fed any of the recalled cat food products?
Drooling can be normal in older cats who have lost teeth but usually it's a sign of an illness, cats are very good at hiding ill health as it's a weakness in the animal kingdom. They are usually sick long before they show any symptoms. Behavioural changes are often the first indication. Best to have it checked out by a vet as drooling can often indicate poisoning and since the cat has suddenly started doing it, then you need to be sure it's not something major which will a. End up costing a lot to treat if you leave it, and or b. End up with your cat dying.

There are two major reason for drooling. One is a tooth problem, and the other is that drooling is a cat version of nausea. My one cat started to drool literally buckets, then stopped, and then started again. The vet could find no problems. Once she returned from the vet, she hasn't drooled since. Try and look in her mouth to see if you see a tooth problem, such as a redness in her gums. That would be a clue that the problem is related to her teeth, and she needs a vet trip.

Yes, cats can drool for a variety of reasons. But if your cat is inappropriately drooling when he didn't do so before, he may have some mouth issues like a toothache.

Yes, some cats drool. Especially when they are frightened. I bought a lil fellow from a adoption place. He was drooling all over my shirt. The gal helping me said he is drooling because he is scared.
She was right. After I brought him home and cuddled up to him he never drooled again.

Sometimes it ok for a cat to drool, if it is very minimal.
BUT
If your cat is drooling alot, and has never done this before, you need to take him/her to the vet.
This is a symptom for alot of differant illnesses in a cat. My cat started drooling once, and it turned out she had a bladder disease.

Cats can drool when scared, nervous, or happy. My cat drools all over when he gets attention. However there are periodontal diseases that can cause drooling along with other illnesses such as FIV and FIP. So if this behavior is not normal for your cat or it has other symptoms of disease( not eating or drinking, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic) then I would call you vet and make an appointment for him to be seen.
