When your pregnant, you usually don't experience "sharp pains" in your stomach. If you do, it's usually a sign of a problem. What people experience while pregnant is a "fluttering" or mild cramping in the lower abdomen, but not specifically to the right or the left. Have you missed a period? I've had two friends who have had miscarriages who complained of sharp pains days before bleeding. I would call a doctor to be sure. But sharp pains could be a lot of things. An STD, ectopic pregnancy, polycystic ovaries, or even gas or constipation. If you can't get to a Dr right away, here's a website I really like that might help you figure out what's causing your pain ; It's called yourdiagnosis.com (my cut & paste isn't working, sorry)
Good luck!

there are only two organs involved in the lower left abdomen, one is the ovary on that side and the other is the large bowel. 99% of the time it is the bowel that causes pain in that region, either because of constipation or an excess build up of gas, or because of irritable bowel syndrome.

If you are prego it could be an ectopic pregnancy. If not, it could be PMS, ovarian cyst, gas. If you are older (50 and above) could be diverticulitis. Rarely you could have UTI symproms there or referred pain from an appendicitis.

"Please see your Dr. if pain persists."

Try 'Ponstan' (Mefenamic acid 250mg) - for or relating to period pain.
'Buscopan' (Hyocine butylbromide 10mg) - for stomach discomfort.
