2 absolute MUSTS-On Maiu. bike down the volcano....it's so worth getting up at 3 am to be driven up a hillside-I promise!!! And on Kaui-take a zodiac tour around the perimeter of the coast, through waterfalls, caves, etc....like nothing you have ever seen!
I have been to Maui/Kaui approx. 30 times in my life and those are the 2 greatest memories of all my time there~

In Maui, we have some of the finest beaches in the state, located on the west side. This is the Kaanapalli Resort area, where you can wine and dine on the ocean, go shopping at Whalers Village, shop at Lahaina, and check out some of the clubs there at night. You can take bus tours of Hana, but that is a long trip, you can go snorkeling either off the beach or on one of the boats, like Trilogy. You can go to the Ocean Center in Maaalea , where they have an awesome fish aquarium, like sharks, rays, and many more. And if you get bored of all that, ha. ha. you can visit our other islands, like Lanai. or Molokai, and do a day trip. I hate to say it but the book Maui Revealed is actually a good one and will give you some pretty good information. OH, we also have some excellent golf courses, if you like golf. But if you like the sun and the ocean, like I do, just relax, get tan and swim. Of course if you dive we have dive boats that will take you out. Aloha, and enjoy. I have ben to Kaui, andit is really nice, as they have the awesome north shore, and the Napalli coast, and many beaches for surfing, and South shore is where all the hotels are like the Hyatt, and less rain. Both Islands are awesome, and very diverse, each having their own identity. In Maui, we have the volcano, Haleakala, which is a state park, and you can go there, and Kaui has Mt. ALIALI, I am not sure of that spelling, but ALOHA, AND ENJOY.

A MUST on Maui is to take a Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour. Ask for Jack to be your pilot. He's great and you will LOVE it! You'll see where the beginning of Jurassic Park was shot and you'll fly right up to Haleakala too. Also take the rain forest hike, also where some of Jurassic Park was shot. It's an awesome hike and lunch is furnished.
Also on Maui, take a drive to Hana if you have time. It'll take you all day but you will go by the gorgeous north shore and you just might see some 70' waves and world class surfers riding them.
I'm envious, can I go too?

Kauai. rent a kayak and paddle up to the fern grotto. but don't just stop there past the grotto is a small area where there's a palce to jump off a small ledge or use the rope to swing out and into the fresh water. if your hiking out to the napali make sure you bring water and start early. best to get started by sunrise at the trail head. i've kayaked the napali several times and it was some of my best times i've had with my family. please go with an experienced guide if you are unfamiliar. drive up to waimea canyon and see the sights there. the weather is different there so be ready for some wet wx. but always hiked new trails there and found outstanding vistas. the best ones are the trails w/ small water falls and/or swimming holes to cool off in. be sure to take extra clothes. ask some of the locals for farmers markets and get the local flavor. some of the best dishes i've had were from school or church fundraisers. mostly anywhere you go on kauai you'll find pleasing.

There are lots, but the first things that come to mind for me is:
On Kauai, visit the Kalalau lookout, for views of Na'pali coast, Hanalei Bay & beach park, Lumahai beach, National Tropical Botanical Gardens.
On Maui, Mt. Haleakala, (particularly at sunrise), the Iao needle, and drive a bit of the Hana highway.
On any of the islands, try shave ice !!

Maui: 'Iao Needle, spend an evening in Lahaina, Maui Aquarium, eat at the sausage place in Kihei, Wailea Beach.
Kauai: Spouting Horn, Kilauea Lighthouse, JoJo's shave ice in Waimea (best shave ice on the island!), Waimea Canyon, kayak up the Wailua River (only navigable river in the state), innertube ride down an old sugar cane irrigation ditch, zip line tour.

on Maui I would highly recommend:
The trip to the seven pools park. Wear hiking shoes and trek way up the trail to the higher elevation pools. The views and solitude were fantastic.
Snorkling at Black Rock.
Dinner at Momma's Fish House.
