L.A. = Day parking at shopping malls and attractions is relatively easy to find and often free. Overnight parking is more difficult. Westside property owners are very territorial creatures, so don't park in "their" spaces.

However, many L.A. hotels - especially in more suburban areas like the San Gabriel Valley - will offer free parking for guests. These include chains like Embassy Suites, Holiday Inn, and Courtyard by Marriott. It might be wise to take advantage of those.

S.F. = Parking is always a nightmare. 24/7, 365 days a year. Tiny little spaces (apparently designed for VW Beetles) and expensive meters/garages...if you can even find an open space. And that's a big "if"...drivers in S.F. have been known to circle the same block for an hour looking for someone to leave.

If your're talking about the downtown areas, it's really rather hard to find a place on the street. Your best bet is to park in a parking garage. It's cheaper than hotel valet. Have fun!

Los Angeles is not too difficult! There are generally meter parking available.

San Francisco is very difficult and expensive. In San Fran look for the less expensive parking lots.

I lived in both Cities

LA is easy, just take a lot of change for the meters. Street parking is easy to find and sometimes its still free.

San Fran is hard and very costly. You probably wont find any street parking and the parking lots are expensive.

I'm afraid to sound so negative but parking is abysmal in both
cities. Also San Diego but great public transportation there
and Frisco. Wish I was goin' with y'all. Have fun.
