I wont use big words or anything but I will talk from experience. The truth of the matter is that I feel as though the darkness shows you a world of loneliness of when you can not even see the great things in life that are around you. Darkness is when you think and wonder about everything in yourself that is truly bothering you. Even that of what you are afraid to admit to your own self. Darkness is also when what you feel inside is found on the outside all around you surrounding you, and whispering softly in your ear "I am your weakness. You can't run I will always be with you."

The human body actually cycles during the 24 hour period and 'things" really are worse at night. The most common time to die is between 4 and 5 o'clock in the morning so obviously we are at our lowest point then. What you have to understand about depression is that it is a chemical imbalance so it will be affected by the body's cycle and that cycle depends on the amount of cortisol being released by the brain. If I knew I was going to have a bad time during the night and wouldn't be sleeping, I'd make plans to keep busy instead of being upset all night. I don't sleep at night and even take walks at night. I have met the police that are in my neighborhood at night and they keep an eye out for me so it's not all that dangerous. Our city even has a program where you can ride with the police after a short training program. I get the first donut off the line at the donut shop most mornings and there are always people showing up there to talk to. Try to make a life for yourself that will keep you from being down at night. Good Luck and God Bless

Partly because you are tired, and everything always seems worse when you are tired. Partly because you have no other distractions to take you mind of things. You just lie there, wishing you could go to sleep and worrying about things which stops you sleeping, gets you more tired and makes everything seem even worse. Everybody has the occasional night like that, if it's a regular thing it becomes more serious. What I do if I feel myself getting into that cycle is check the time and make a promise to myself, if I haven't fallen asleep in 10 minutes I'll get up. As I hate getting out of bed my nice warm bed that is usually sufficient to make me appreciate just snuggling in and drifting off to sleep. If however I don't go to sleep I get up and either what something pointless on TV or read a book until I start to feel tired again.

During the day your mind is busy. Either with school or work or other stuff. At night, especially before bed, you have more time to think which can cause depression to intensify. At night I always turn on my t.v. I set it on sleep so that it goes off after I'm already asleep. It keeps me from thinking about things.

At night your body shifts hormonal cycles and there is an increase in the neurohormone, neurotransmitter melatonin. Melatonin is from a family of chemicals that can induce hallucinations and it can increase certain brain activity. Neurohormones and neurotransmitters carry electrical and chemical signals around the body. Sometimes, if our nerves are under stress the increased electrical firing of them can keep us awake and seemingly increase our problems out of normal proportion.

you're greater run down at evening. Hospitals look busier on weekends too. each and every each and every now and then you certainly sense worse at evening on the grounds which you do not have time to think of concerning the discomfort (actual or psychological) once you're busy in the direction of the day.

your body is worn down from the day, and you mind starts to wander to different things. at night when your getting ready to sleep, is the time your mind goes nuts, and you start thinking of stuff. thats why some ppl have trouble sleeping, or staying asleep.

Also, I think our brains undergo some minor neurochemical repairwork while we're asleep, and we wake up mentally refreshed the next day, with new clarity.
