I got married in Yachats, OR on the beach. It was absolutely gorgeous and I would do there again if I could. I love that beach. The Rose Garden in Eugene, OR is great, too.

Weddings are expensive. I made my own dress, bouquets, cake and food and it still cost us about $2000 for everything. That is way cheap, too. Most weddings cost about $7000 or $8000 depending on the location and the amount spent on the dress and food and cake and invitations and flowers and photos and programs and everything. It can be more if you want it to. It isn't hard to spend a lot of money on a wedding.

I am getting married in Upstate NY on Septemeber 22. We are inviting 250 people and are anticipating on spending $40,000 and an additional $10,000 for our honeymoon. Granted we are having a wedding where our reception is costing roughly $85.00 a head. The reception is the most expensive part of the wedding experience. I mean, are you a Ritz-Carlton kind of person or is the Best Western more what you are looking for? The answers to questions like that will ultimately determine your total costs.

The cost of securing the church is roughly $400 which includes a donation to the church, organist and soloist. Invitations are going to probably run you $75 - depending on the style you select. You can always make your own to cut costs even further. The wedding dress can be purchased from places like David's Bridal for about $100 plus maybe $25 if alterations are needed. Flowers can run anywhere from $500 to $5,000. It all depends on what you want and where. A photographer again varies on what you want and need. Typically you can expect to spend $1,000 to $3,000. A good way to cut costs there would be to have disposable cameras at every table and let your guests take the pictures for you. A DJ should only run you $500 to $1,000. A band is going to be much more. Now we're back to the food and beverage factor - for 30 to 40 guests you will have to research your venues and get package pricing. You can cut costs dramatically by having a cash bar only. The final determination is up to you and what your tastes are.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you and your new marriage!

You can spend as much or as little as you want! I have seen great weddings done with little money because you can cut corners if you just shop around and research!

Your major costs are going to be:

Reception Site: starting at $1,000
Photographer: starting at $1,000
Dress: starting at $300
Tuxedo: ???
Cake: Starting at $150 for 30-40 guests
Decorations: Starting at $200
Caterer: ???

These are all my own estimations based on the shopping I have done. My sister just got married a couple of years ago and I would say this is the minimum you will pay for the above services/items.

there is no reason to spend more than $5K on a wedding for 30-40 guests. if you NEED to spend more, i would stop and re-evaluate WHY you're getting married, and WHY you feel it's necessary to spend lavishly.

i don't know of any places in the above states, but nevada is known for weddings! reno has made it extremely easy and inexpensive to get married there. i know of a chapel there where for 30-40 guests you could have the ceremony, catered RECEPTION, rented gown and tux, flowers, video, photography (pretty much EVERYTHING) for under $5,000. no joke!

the keys to keeping the wedding inexpensive: find a location that is already beautiful. then you won't need to buy floral arrangements, fabric or chairs!!

congrats!

I understand you want to know a range. I have been watching Cable TV shows about weddings lately. Seems people spend a lot but for only 30 - 40 people .. that is not much. So probably less than $15G ..
