Prayer isn't supposed to be words recited over and over again. How would you like it if every day your family had the same routine of what you say to each other and you ALWAYS said the EXACT same thing? It's the same way with God. He doesn't want to hear the same thing all the time when you're only saying it because you have to, he wants your genuine thoughts and feelings. What if everything anyone said to you was said only because people felt that they had to? Try really talking to God sometime, as if he were your best friend.

i'm surprised that you say " we muslims" which means that you are one , what surprises me more is that how come you are one and you don't know how our prayers are contracted or shortened?
anyway, in islam, if a muslim travels a distance far more than 80 or 90 kilometres he should shorten his prayers which is restricted to aldhuhur prayers al3assr prayers and al3ishaa prayers so we pray two instead of four rak3at
and praying is a repetitive duty according to what our creator has told in order to remain in contact with him during these five prayers, it doesn't take too long if you're moaning about it, about five minutes each prayer!!
so why the fuss?
unless you're questioning... then there's a problem!!
stay on the right..... may Allah guide you

Well, if prayer is something you are dreading and trying to get out of, I say you need to talk to someone. I believe in God, you believe in Allah, but the prncipal of prayer is still the same. He wants a contrite and loving heart, not one that prays because it has to.

why would you want shortcuts?is it because the prayers get in the way of you living your day-a day that God blessed you with???????
it may be the same repetitive act but its the feelings attached to those acts which make the difference.

You dont think that is RIGID? Do not thrash out on me now, Im just saying that there is freedom in Christ, and we Christians are too, not unsimilar to Islam....we are admonished to "pray without ceasing".....this the LORD did not mean as literal. JESUS wants us to commune with HIM and have a personal relationship with Him thru having ALWAYS a spirit of prayer. For instance, your driving down the road, and you see an ambulance speed past you....taking that IMMEDIATE MOMENT to INTERCEDE in prayer for whomever is in that ambulance is part of what this "to pray without ceasing" means.
Since I am unsure of all the ins and outs of Islam, I do not know if there is such a thing as consolidating all five of those prayers into one extended one? I just do not know. All I do know is that JESUS is with us at all times by and thru HIS HOLY SPIRIT, and HE KNOWS the thoughts and intents of all mankinds heart and soul.
If, lets just say a big "IF" you were to ever read the Holy BIBLE as in the Gospel of JESUS CHRIST AS our REDEEMER; and do so with an open heart.......[please do so by looking at JESUS, and not at His "so-called" followers/believers. We humans are fallible and prone to mistake after mistake; but if we learn from the Master Himself in the Word of GOD....we know that we have found the truth.
I know you werent looking for a conversion effort, but it was on my heart, out of pure love, to speak those admonitions to you. I do apologize if I have offended you.
GOD BLESS YOU,
^seven^

Sorry, I have no answer for you because I am not Muslim.
Why do you pray 5 times a day anyway? Is that what your book says to do, or is it what man tells you to do?

The point, I imagine, is that it is time given up to God.
Or you can go with Gandalf's suggestion.
