Well, I have been here in Hollywood, CA for 6 months, and despite always trying to be positive, I have yet to find anything good about this area. I really do like to make the best of every situation, but many people here posess qualities that I despise in people, such as being fake, posers, using people, just to name a few. However, I have also met some great people. I am thinking about moving to Burbank after this summer, and then perhaps San Jose later down the road. I really do want to stay in CA, and I am sure its not fair to generalize the state based on LA alone. Thanks

burbank is not so much part of the "LA scene" as you may think. It houses plenty of media companies that employ thousands of people, but only has 50 k residents.

it's a perfectly nice place to live.

except for the cops.

Burbank is definitely part of the "Hollywood machine" you seem to dislike. You do realize that NBC and WB studios are located there, right?

If you want to get away from that crowd (and still remain in the L.A. metropolitan area), you need to look into working class cities like Long Beach or the exurbs of Riverside/San Bernardino.

San Jose is the most "L.A." city in Northern California (if it were run by a bunch of computer nerds instead of actors). It sprawls across a vast basin of strip malls and freeways.

If you want something different from Los Angeles... try San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and Santa Cruz for Northern California. For Southern California... try Santa Barbara, San Luis Opisbo, and San Diego.

It seems to me that all your choices, thus far, are actually very similar to what you already have.

hmmmm...Well I can't imagine that you are going to find Burbank radically different than Hollywood, but give it a try...You seem to have a positive attitude, so maybe you just fell in with the wrong people...I don't think most the people here have , at least recently, lived in San Jose...so you might post this question in the San Jose section also....you might get some good info. there...You did say you met some great people in Hollywood, so maybe you will meet some more in Burbank...???

I live in San Joe and have been to LA.

San Jose and LA have nothing in common, really. People here are not pretty, there is only one high-end mall in Santa Clara (Valley Fair) and everything revolves around brains, rather than looks. Still, many very cool companies are based here, so lots of smart and cool people to meet (Yahoo!, Google, Cisco, Apple to name a few).

There are still superficial people, as everywhere else, but overall, this is way better than LA. Keep in mind, however, that is is expensive to live here. Around $1,300 to rent one bedroom 9ant not fancy) and half a million to buy a decent condo.

Strange , I was thinking San Jose was the L.A. of the north.
Functionally , southern cal and northern cal are 2 different states .
LA is veryyy competitive based on the hollyweird image and most persons sell them selves one way or another .
Northern Cal is also competitive but less so and there is a lot less of the fake stuff .
But please do not tell anyone , too many people move north and it turns into another LA . . .
So , please , keep it secret .

You might want to ask some one in the San Jose section.
