The easiest way is to tap into the cigarette lighter fuse at your fuse box on the end of the dash, driver's side. An "Add-a-circuit" fuse tap makes it easy:

The problem with going to the battery is that it's difficult to connect wires to a side-terminal GM battery unless you replace the battery post.

your main car battery is th easiest. Run the wire through the firewall.
