Alcohol, in small doses, is a tranquilizer, a glass or two of wine, or a beer, may make you feel relaxed. Still, as many alcoholics have eventually found, booze does not "numb feelings or emotions", nor make your problems go away. Further, in most cases, it does not "damage the nervous system", but merely has a temporary effect which passes after the alcohol gets metabolized. Doses high enough to damage the nervous system can kill you...

Why would you want to even try to numb feelings or emotions? If you feel like you need to do this then maybe you should get some help. Or change what you are doing and who you are around. I don't think you could numb feelings or emotions with alcohol just walk into a bar everyone is either telling everything about themselves or looking for sympathy and they are all drunk. So that means you can't numb it, it is always there.
