Depends on the type of duck. Some fly south, whereever there's a food source and unfrozen water. I live in the northern US, have a creek in the backyard that freezes over, and have mallards year-round. When It's bad out, I feed them along with the other wild birds in the yard.

This website will give you range maps for North American birds, so you can find where your favorite species spen the winter: http://geobirds.com/index.php?option=com_staticxt&staticfile=rangemap.html&Itemid=78

They usually go south. Sometimes they stay where they are if the winter is warmer than usual.
