So i decided to move there right after high school. Is it really hard to get a job and a place to live? i have a car and i will have about $1,500 to go on. Do you think ill have much trouble getting started? thanx

Just remember...the COST of LIVING is so much higher there than it is here in Missouri. $1,500 will NOT get you far.
Good Luck!

Oh honey...be careful! Having a car in LA is a necessity for sure- but with only $1500 to start on, you'll probably be living in it! The cost of living here is outrageous, even in the terrible areas. Chances are, you could set up house in a nice surburban house in Missouri for the same price of a studio apartment in the most crack-infested block of Los Angeles.

The city is full of young, talented people who came here seeking what they saw on TV- the reality is that it's just another big, overpriced city with terrible crime, traffic and congestion.

Go to college, stay in the midwest and come visit us here in LA when you want a nice vacation!

Los Angeles is completely different from what you see on television, and what life is like in Missouri. It is very crowded, and very expensive. Before you make a permanent move I would suggest that you come out to visit for a week and see how you like it. If you do like it just stay, but if you don't like it you will have the means to get back home. A high school diploma won't get you very far here with so many college grads looking for work.

Well its a little hard at first. As there are many unemployed actors that take most of the jobs. So you may have to apply for many many jobs before you get a reply.

Also rent is pretty high. Best to find a flat mate or rent a small place. Moving close to universities is easier to find cheaper places to live and flat-mates.

Where you live makes a difference! traffic and getting around town is not so easy. So chose wisely as you want to be in the near your future job.

Neighborhoods are very distinct and filled of like-minded people. so chose one that is most like you. IE if your a hippie that likes the beach (venice beach is good) if your a punk and want to be in a band try Hollywood. if you like it calm try the valley.

Good luck

housing prices in LA are very expensive - rent isn't too cheap either. If you're willing to live in a sketchy neighborhood you might make that $ stretch 2 months. Getting a job isn't too hard, but it all depends on what you want to do. Oh, Hollywood is not what it's like on TV, trust me. I would at least try to have a job or find a place to live BEFORE you move out here. Best of luck!

Not sure what you're expecting, but if you really want to move to Los Angeles, then do it.

$1500 won't even cover one month's rent, much less the security deposit and last month's rent to get the apartment in the first place. So, unless you have a buddy's couch to sleep on, plan on sleeping in your car until you get a job.

That's ok. You can rent a mailbox for about $75 per 6 months. So, rent the box, get a cellphone, live in your car, and you'll be fine on $1500 until you get a job.

If you're not picky about what kind of work you do and you are motivated, you'll get a job.

Good luck!

oh my dear, LA is paved with disappointed souls like you.

you will find is NOT AT ALL LIKE YOU SEE ON TV!

remember, we are the capital of smoke and mirrors.

you will quickly be disillusioned.

once you look down from our sunshine and blue skies, you will see the garbage, traffic, potholes, traffic, homeless, graffiti, obscene housing, insurance and gas, and did i mention the god-awful traffic?

you may find people are not as friendly as you are used to. it's nothing personal, there are just so many people here, we get burned out. and it can be especially trying if all your support group is half a continent away.

try to get a job lined up before you leave. or at least a lot of job interviews.

good luck.

It is very hard to get a good paying job with out a good education. I would suggest that you apply to school out here and get an education. Without a trade or skills you will be stuck at min wage jobs and spend a life time struggling.

You will have a lot of trouble, becuse it is a stupid idea. L.A. is not like what it looks like on t.v. L.A. is congested, and has a lot of traffic. It will also be very hard coming from a town to a big city. Well, good luck!!!! I hope you find happines in L.A.
