Try your local sports centre or gymnastics centre. i take my daughter to both (she's 2) and they have organised sessions for youngsters where they can run themselves ragged and you can meet other mum's. also check your local press for mother and toddler groups and the like.

Also try the babycentre website, they have a forum and www.busylittleones.co.uk lists things going on in your area too!

Although I am not in London. I would put out a flier or something at a park or local coffee house about a small play group. It's hard when they are really little to meet other moms.
When they start a Pre School you will meet a lot of people.

How about little mom and me classes ?
Swim classes with a baby?
Is there a local ad in the paper you can give to form a group
and give your e-mail-

When I was a young mother a woman in our neighborhood put a note in our neighborhood newsletter asking if anyone was interested in forming a play group. Five women joined and we all had children about a year old, plus a sixth woman attended occassionally- she had two infant girls a couple of months old.

For the next couple of years we met every week, and it was a wonderful support group. I think I had the best of it because, just by chance, four of them were nurses, so when my baby had a health problem I could pick their brains about it.

You may not have a neighborhood newsletter, but you might consider asking in coffee shops, posting a notice on a bulletin board or something of the sort. Maybe ask your pediatrician if you could post something in his/her office to find other young parents interested in a play group.

We always said the play group was for the moms, not the babies. The babies had fun, but it became a life saver for us moms. Sadly we all had big changes in our lives around the same time, with 3 moms moving, one getting a divorce, etc. and things broke up after a couple of years, but it was really nice while it lasted.

Look around in the city that you live. Places like gymboree are a great place to get started. You get to have play time with your child and you both get to interact with your age group. If there are any college's in the area to see if they have any kind of program. If your just wanting to have some mommy time try a chat room or a program at a local community center. There's lots of opportunity you just might have to dig a little.

Netmums website is good. If you put your postcode in they will find all the mums in your local area. I found one of my good friends through this site.

Babycentre website has a forum for each area of the country and is good too.

Check them out cause they have saved me from insanity (almost!) and from being brainwashed by cbeebies!
