I am afraid if the ELCA allows gay marraige into my Church I am afraid I am going to leave permamently.

Here is my proof:
1Co 6:9 Don't you know that evil people won't have a share in the blessings of God's kingdom? Don't fool yourselves! No one who is immoral or worships idols or is unfaithful in marriage or is a pervert or behaves like a homosexual
1Co 6:10 will share in God's kingdom. Neither will any thief or greedy person or drunkard or anyone who curses and cheats others.

I'm a hetero, been married 36 years, and my whole world is not going to come crashing down like a house of cards because of gay marriage.

Get a grip, will ya people? Is your world that precariously balanced? Is your lifestyle that easily threatened?

Oh, and to participant "Lucky":

If you were to fly over to Europe, you would see some men - simple friends, not "gay" - just walking together hand in hand. Why? Because their not so wound-tight with preconceived notions like people here in the US.

Make a note: touching does not = sexuality and neither does nude = lewd.

People have such narrow definitions for life...

If gays marry, then that changes the definition of marriage, and mocks the institution of marriage. If marriage can mean anything- same sex, multiple partner, human to animal, etc. then marriage will mean nothing. If my son is my son and I start calling the neighbor my son, and my dog, my son, and the trees my sons, and the chairs my sons, then my real son is what?

If everything is marriage then nothing is marriage. There is no way that 2 men can have the same type of relationship, union of heart and body, creation of offspring, that a man and a woman can, call it what they will.

Families are the building blocks of society. A true marriage is a solemn, selfless, lifelong, union of one man and one woman. When the family falls apart, the nation must soon follow.

No way! and while we're preventing people from getting married I think we should stop inter racial marriages as well...I also think people should have to marry within their own age groups...and I think that they should marry with in their own height and weight range...nothing grosses me out more than seeing a fat person with a skinny person and while we're at it can I stop my mom from marrying her boyfriend because I just don't think that would be right and can we do this retroactively cause I don't think my sister should have married her husband, that was just stupid!
I do hope you realize that I am just kidding! I love people and think they all deserve "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" and if that's what makes you happy then may God bless!

Of course. Laws written to the contrary are simply another way christians try to impose their beliefs onto everyone.

If christians find something to be wrong or against their god, then christians should not do it. Other people believe differently. Why should everyone have to live under the rules of one religion?

yes, they should. God made everyone a certain way for a reason and we should not deny our fellow human beings their rights, no matter what their orientation is. at the very least, we should allow civil unions with similar benefits as married people.

if God wanted us to marry the same sex he would allow it. hate what God hates and love want God hates. Jehovah God made the first marriage with Adam and Eve not Adam and Steven. they also should not have equal rights as a married couple as a man and woman would. they should not be allowed to adopted children either. children need a Father and Mother, not two mothers or two dads.

I vote yes. Harmony is harmony; disharmony is the only sin against God. -- Well Fundies, have you caused any disharmony lately? And, are you sure you are quoting the real original Bible on that issue? Surely, you don't think that the Bible scrolls were originally written in English?

Not sure who you are talking about when you use the word 'they'.

My answer has to be 'NO' because it is an abomination unto God. Plus, I would consider it to be called 'same sex partner' instead of using the word marriage because it is not a 'marriage' when two people of the same sex are living together, it is called sin unto the eyes of God.

God intended marriage to be a male and female and they should be as one, not two people of the same sex.
