I wanted roast potatoes for tea but I haven't any lard or white flora :( I do however have oil - sunflower and olive, and I have a tin of ghee, and butter, but thats about it. Is there any way I can make them using any of these? oh, and will they taste good? or at least ok? cheers in advance!

You can use the sunflower or olive oil.
I've never heard of making roast potatoes with flour or lard.
Quarter the potatoes and mix them with either of the oils.
Place the potatoes on a baking sheet and sprinkle them with salt and pepper and any other seasoning you like.I like to use paprika.
Bake at 350 degrees and keep turning them till baked.
So easy and very good.

Oil is fine. I always cook my roast potatoes in oil. Just make sure it is really hot and cook them the same as you would if cooking in lard. I would suggest using the sunflower oil though. I only really using olive oil for flavouring or cooking italian dishes.

Part cook the potatoes, drain them, and shake a couple of spoonfuls of plain flour onto them. Then add them to sunflower oil that you have preheated in a hot oven. Takes about 35-45 mins, should be lovely. Maris Pipers are best potatoes for perfect roasties.

Sunflower oil will do the trick nicely. Peel the potatoes and cut into chunks if necessary then boil them till they're nearly cooked and the outsides go soft (you should be able to stick a fork in them with very little effort). Shake them around in the colander to rough up the edges so they will crisp up nicely. Now brush them well with the oil and pop them on a non stick baking tray in the oven till they're nice and brown. This is how I cook all my rosties and they should turn out lovely and cripsy with nice soft centers.

I routinely use vegetable oil for roasting potatoes. Put it in the pan and put it in the oven to heat up whilst you're parboiling the potatoes then drain and scuff them up (by putting the lid on the pan and shaking them about) then get the hot pan out of the oven and get the spuds in it quickly so the oil sizzles, turn them over to coat them and whack them back in - I'm drooling at the thought!
