It is a great, soulful song.

Samuel Medley apparently wrote the words in 1775, and it was put to music by John Hatten in 1793.

Nicole Mullen sang the song, but I'm not sure whether or not she wrote it. It's possible seeing that she is a songwriter. But you would have to check the info on the cd.

I do not know who wrote it but it is my very favorite song. So far I like it the best performed by Nicole Mullen. : )
