You know your dog better than anyone else will....is it gonna use a terrier as a chew toy?? If not, then any dog that you fancy would be a good choice. I don't think that you have to match the size...and god knows that would be a task in itself short of another mastiff. In the big dog breeds I've owned and been pleased with Great Danes, Great Pyranese, ....yeah anything with great in the title will do! Collies and Labs are good temperment with other dogs too.

Consider the British bulldog. Similar but non threatening, yet a capable competitor. I don't know if two is a good age to introduce the companion. They should be pups together. Is it female? She might react well to a pup in a couple of years. If the mastif is male I would hope you have a lot of room and time for your dog before exposing another dog to one of the most terrifying breeds on Earth.

If hes friendly then any dog!! i would get one of the opposite sex and have one or both of them 'done' as two males can sometimes be a bit difficult, any breed will be fine tho
Perhaps one of a similar size so they can play properly without one hurting the other, however my mum has a big mongrel and a chihuahua and they are best of friends!

Hmmmm....some people are gonna say "get a dog as big as that one"...but dude, I have a 79 pound boxer (not as big as your dog, but still sizable) and his best friend is a 10 pound shih tzu. They chew on each other, run, jump, play fight. It's pretty comical.

I'd get a lab or a spaniel. Get it quick...once your dog is past three years old, it won't like having another younger mate around.
