speak on the phone, text each other or chat on IM. He seems to think that the contact for him is too much, I disagree. I want to spend a lot of time with him outside of just being on the phone and all. We are now not sure what to say to each other because we don't want to say the wrong thing? What should I do?

For guys, communication isn't a recreational activity. At least, not nearly as much as it is for females.

Get used to that.

You have no more right to demand that he spend a lot of time chatting than he has the right to demand that you spend a lot of time playing Naked Twister.

I think your being to clingy thta just scares a guy off. If you realy like this guy move at his pace because he seems like he just wants to tak it slow. If he were in your place you wouldnt want him to do the same.

Stop smothering him. You'll drive him away if you don't.

We don't work the way you do. We don't need (or like) a constant level of chatter. It is very fatiguing.
