How is it possible to cut a cake into eight equal parts......with just three straight cuts with a knife????

Assuming the cake has a filling layer in the middle... 3 vertical lines spaced equally apart. I don't know! I just spent almost 20 min. trying to figure it out. Tell me please, I'm begging you!!!

Cut one goes from side to side, passing through the center of the cake as one looks down at it.

Cut two is made in a similar manner, at 90 degrees from the first cut.

Cut three cuts the cake horizontally, cutting side to side instead of top-down.

Thus, in three dimensions, we have eight equal pieces.

It would take two cuts vertically into the cake, to divide the cake into four equal wedges. Then simply cut the cake in half horizontally.
That's my two cents for ya.

first make one horizontal cut so that the cake splits into two equal layers then make two vertical cross cuts.....now u get 8 equal pieces

First cut....cut it into a top half and bottom half, like floors of a building.

Second and third cuts, cut into quarters so that each half , top and bottom, now have four pieces.
