I am really ashamed of the HUBRIS displayed by my fellow service members.

I see quite often how service persons discount the opinions of others(civilians) - on the very basis of their lack of service - if he/she haves an opinion on Iraq that makes the service member angry.

They say "You never served, you don't know what your talking about".

Do service members really believe their own logic????

If so, maybe no one is qualified to say hold high office (like US Senator, or Supreme Court Justice) UNLESS he/she has "served".

Or, maye only service members are "qualified" enough to vote.

** Sometimes I don't know if my fellow service members actually don't respect the judgment of civilians, OR if it is just their HUBRIS and prejudice talking both at the same time,

any service members reading this you better be more mindful of how you address civilians.

BTW I "served" in the USMC reserve, 8th tank battalion, 4th Marine Division, Anti-tank Charlie company, 1996-2002

Everyone is entitled to an opinion of the situation, BUT no one who has not served in the war zone should say anything about what the service members are doing there, calling them nasty names and baby killers and such. The service members see things for what they are, be it small children with bombs strapped to their bodies or men and women with guns doing their damnedest to kill the U.N forces.

Depends on the argument: Whoever can offer the best and most authority-supported premises to back their claims/arguments up usually provides the strongest argument. Just because someone was in the war doesn't mean they are any more qualified to take a political stance... They would, however, be more authoritative on an argument about, for example, living situations for soldiers in the war...

We were all civillians at one time, and all of our oppinions matter, but sometimes it does come down to experience, you wouldn't like a civillian telling you things about a war you fought in, it's more of a media issue because the media over and under inflates everything regarding service members and war.

honestly though you see that attitude more often in marines than in any other branch, I don't mean it as an offense, a few of my friends joined/are joining the marines, and I am not one to fall in to the branch vs branch rivalry.

Why would they be?

That's like asking if anyone except Germans alive from 1939-1945 are qualified to give an opinion on the Holocaust.

Some civilians are fools..
Some military people are fools..
There are both military & civilian fools on this Y/A forum..
There are both military & civilian wise men on this site..
Always consider the validity of the source..

Our counrty is at war, I think we need the opinions from anyone who want to put them forth. The President has only seen combat while driving drunk and he makes the decisions.
