I will be honest with you. It is a high risk surgery. There are many things that can go wrong during a major surgery such as aneurysm repair. However, the success rate is quite high and surgeons have been performing such surgeries for a long, long time. There have been advances made that give the patient the best chance at recovery.

Your dad will have to have a positive attitude to make sure he'll do all that is required of him immediately after the surgery. If he's otherwise healthy, 61 isn't THAT old, and he could tolerate the surgery very well. I'll make one suggestion. Make sure your dad has a picture of all of you in his room post-op. That will give him incentive to do his best to recover, even on the tough days. Good luck to him and your family!

The surgery is the very best thing for your father, without it, it could rupture and he could bleed severely. NOT operating would be far far more risky. Your father will be fine. All surgery carries risks, but the benefits for your father far outweigh any risks involved. It is something that cannot be ignored.

61 is not considered old as far as surgery goes, so I wouldn't worry on that score.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to him.

Bless your heart...did you know there is a spell checker available before you post a question? I wouldn't have mentioned it considering your concern but some might not know what you are talking about if you don't spell the procedure or operation that your dad is going to go through. I believe you are saying his operation is for an Aortic Aneurysm. I have known people who have had that type of surgury done and they have come through fine. It depends on your father's health mostly but he is still fairly young to go through something like that. Take care of yourself and be there for your dad when he comes through the operation.

He has an abdominal aortic aneuysm. This surgery has a high frequency of success. It is good they found the problem before it ruptured.

this is a high risk surgery but generally, yes, people do OK with it if they don't have a lot of other medical problems then even better.
