If you use food as a reward, then yes! They can learn to sit, stand up on there hind legs, lay down, come, etc. One of my cats plays fetch even... I'm sure you can find info on how to teach these tricks on the internet or in a book in the library.

i trained my cat to jump everytime I snap my fingers..... I just snapped my fingers and then got him to jump with a string toy. After He did that I gave him a little bit of tuna... not long after, he learned to jump when I snapped my fingers without me dangling the toy.

He has been able to do it for 8 years, even if I dont reward him evey time.

Cats are very capable of learning tricks, and fast too, but some are just too stuborn!

Cats have a mind of their own. if they want to be trained, they can be trained. Otherwise, they're best left alone. Besides, cats can jump and climb stuff instinctively, as well as roll over.

with food and/or attention you can make a cat do just about anything... My old cat used to jump into my ex's arms when he held out his arms and said her name. It came from her wanting to be with him outside while working on the cars (almost always on his chest!) one day he was standing and called her and she came running and jumped up--no claws! Ever since then this is her trick....

I i want them to jump i just dangle a treat in the air and my cat does sommersaults ( I only do this on my bed so there is a soft landing for her) Also she begs for food, i didnt train her she just did that one day. And when its dinner time i whistle and she knows to come home.

Well, I do know that food has to be involved if you want to teach your cat a trick. They won't do it just for praise from their owner, which I guess goes to show just how smart they really are!
I used to have a beautiful white male cat named Jack Frost. His "trick" was to jump up behind me and grab my butt with both his paws when his food dish was empty...this was self-taught, however :)

You can somewhat train your cats. My cats know how to jump. I pat the bed/counter/whatever two times and then they jump up. Also, if I snap my fingers the cats lift up one paw and I'll shake it. They also can drink out of sinks. They jump up on the counter and meow. Then, I turn on the faucet and they drink out of it.
