He is helthy, active and normal, however yesterday when he was sleeping next to me I rolled over and elbowed him by the ear/upper neck area. He cried alittle and then jumped off the bed and cired when he hit the floor, he went to his crate a wouldn't move around and would cry when I touched his head/neck area. I took him to the ER after about 1 hour of this, the on call doctor told me it was meningitis and he needed a spinal tap (at $3000) to determine what type he had, ethier infectious or steriod???
Nothing was wrong with hs blood test and his temp was at 103, which she said 102.5 is normal.

Anyway I do not have that kind of cash so I took him home with pain meds, and 2 types of antibiotics, he slept in his crate all night, woke up in the morning fine, then started crying and acting like before. He is laying in his crate now, still eats and drinks.
Any advice or ideas what it could be, please help ASAP

Well i dont know if you can but ask your insurance to help you pay for the things the vets have to do. It will only get worse. Sorry but to me that is the only thing you can do for the little puppy!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU BOTH!

The dog probably has meningitis, and I am thinking that you should talk to your vet and try to figure out a payment plan to pay for the spinal tap. This could be very serious and the best thing for your dog would be to take him to the vet and do the tests to see what's wrong so he will not be in any more pain for much longer.

this is a hard one to answer because you never no i think its best to listen to the vet it could be meningitis but then again it could be a bruised bone were you ell bowed it. the best thing to do is keep an eye on it for a few more days then take it to the vets again and ask what antibiotics you could buy and that you dent have that amount of cash they might be able to do some thing . ( hope this helps if not really sorry) hope he gets better soon

I think you need a second opinion.

I have never ever in all my years in veterinary medicine ( both private practice, emergency and specialty) seen someone make such a quick assumption and want 3 grand for such an unusual test.

Go to your regular vet...sometimes the simplest diagnosis is the correct one

Ok I could not find anything on meningitis in dogs. It says not found. Did you ask about lyme disease tho?

What are the symptoms of Lyme disease in dogs?
Lyme disease in dogs has various symptoms, not all of which affect every dog that has Lyme disease. Symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite, joint pain, swollen joins, lethargy, and limping. Because some of these symptoms may be caused by other conditions, they are not guarantees of Lyme disease in dogs. Visit the symptoms page on this site for more information.

Did you tell the vet that you elbowed him? She might be jumping to conclusions if she doesn't have the whole story.

First, do you trust the vet that examined your puppy? I think that if it were my decision, I would get a second opinion. Please also look into the link provided for some other information.
