"Most patients with benign insulinomas can be cured with surgery. Persistent or recurrent hypoglycemia after surgery tends to occur in patients with multiple tumors. About two percent of patients develop diabetes mellitus after their surgery."
In other words, your sister's prognosis depends on how early she was diagnosed, whether or not she has multiple tumors, where she seeks treatment, her over-all physical and mental health, etc. No one here on Yahoo! can give you an accurate prognosis. Only her primary oncologist can do that...and then he may be wrong. Don't EVER lose hope!
***P.S. -- It's shameful to think that the responder above me (blue_moon) would try to pass herself off as a doctor. If you look at her other answers and questions, she is no doctor! She just asked a medical question concerning her own ankle and another about acne. She also gave advise to to an Asker on how to break someone's nose in a fight!

Just to cheer you up: my mother had her 78th birthday yesterday-in very good health, and she had her insulinoma removed about 20 years ago. They left only a small bit of her pancreas -but she never became diabetic. Because they had to take the spleen out -they usually do -she has needed some extra vaccinations and had some strange infections, but otherwise everything OK -and she became much more cheerful, when her blood sugars returned to normal.
But like the others said. it depends on the tumor etc. but good taking care of oneself is important, too! (If you want more scientific information on these, you can go to pubmed and type in insulinoma,
I hope everything will go really well!

It can be good. Benign insulinoma can usually be CURED through surgery. Malignant is never good, but can also be treated and expanded. Depending on her current body state and her will to survive through the struggle depends a lot. If you feel there is no medical hope get in touch with someone who can help with mind over matter. Some believe and claim that the mind is the ultimate healer and can heal anything in the body. Which means that anything you ever get can be cured through ultimate belief, faith, and the will to overcome.

Nobody knows the survival chance. It really is unpredictable. It is a deathly disese but if your sister fights through she may survive. But my heart goes out to you and I wish you the very best. I am a doctor and I had a patient who died yesturday with insulinoma.
