People really need to stop joining the military if they want to pick and choose where they go. It doesn't work that way, if you join the military do so expecting that you could be deployed if you don't like that idea DON'T JOIN. On my basic course the instructors got everyone together and told us that no matter what your job or service you could be deployed into a combat zone and could be called upon to kill someone in order to defend yourself, if we had a problem with that to tell them and we would be out of the military by the end of the day. we lost 3 people. SO DON'T JOIN if you don't want to go to combat. Stop asking how to get out of it and what service is least likely to go to war once again if that is your Worry DON'T JOIN!!!!!!!

1LT Watada had the same idea. he told his unit that he didnt want to go to Iraq because he did not believe it was a "just" war. The Army is trying him for missing movement and conduct unbecoming. The big catch of this fact is that this is not a Soldier or Marine's decesion. He can try to see if his commander will remove him from the deployment list somtimes commanders have a little play on letting some stay back for a rear detachment personel. The main fact is that when he, like many of us, signed the contract to support and defend anywhere anytime that he is legally bound to that contract.

YOU AGAIN!? Poor kid. Look what he has for an uncle. One of the big jokes on these Q&A pages.
Tell him they'll let him stay home if he stomps his feet, throws himself on the floor screaming HELL NO, I WON'T GO and cry holds his breath until he turns blue and throw a real tantrum. That always works with the military.
If he's a REAL Marine, I'm the Islamic Pope!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

He can go to his Commander and tell the Commander he does not want to go to Iraq.

When the Commander gets done laughing, he will be going to Iraq.

What do you think the Marine Corp is? Club Med?

he can say I don't believe in this war and there fore I want out, it won't do any good he will still have to serve but he may feel better about speaking his mind.
on the other hand maybe he should not say a word because he will have to depend on these people so tell him to keep quite for now.

Just tell him to say that when he raised his right hand and swore to support and defend the constitution, and to obey the orders of the president...that he had his fingers crossed.

Go ahead...do it...and be sure to tell us the results of your deserting nephew.

HA! Where does he think he is? College? He is in the Marine Corp - he will go where they tell him to go, when they tell him to go and do what they tell him to do when he gets there.

You don't get to pick and choose in the military.

He is Government property and He must follow orders or he will be Court Martialed and I support his conviction if he refuses. Orders in this matter ARE LEGITIMATE under the LAW.
