"they absolutely do not want to think they will pay for anything they say or do"

I've seen this worded differently but stated here many times by Christians and I'm wondering how many believe it's a reason that people are not christian.

It's hate speech, pure-and-simple, and I report it every time I see it. It's really no different than if I said "Christians choose Christianity because it gives them a socially acceptable outlet to sexually abuse children and infants" (which would of course be a similar slanderous lie).

In fact atheists are atheists because we're honest, and the lack of evidence for the existence of a god leads the honest to acknowledge that there is no god. Christians' insistence that we have some evil ulterior motive is simply a lie, and the fact that so many of them resort to telling that particular lie reveals both that they haven't got an honest answer to atheism, and that they haven't got the moral strength to admit it.

It's good to see that a number of Christians here spoke out in response to your question in a far more mature tone. Congratulations, guys.

I am surprised though that several people suggested that this doesn't happen often, or that you're misinterpreting it. It's a very common thing for Christians here to say - I've probably reported it well over 100 times.

I think that many Christians are using this type of phrase to convince themselves that others decide not to be Christian so they (the non-Christians) don't have to think about going to hell for what they say or do. Does that make sense?
I guess they are still, in their own way, trying to make us believe as they do. Ain't gonna happen!
I am not sure if it a common belief or not tho. But they should take a real good hard look at themselves before criticizing others!

I think alot of us Non-Christians here do believe in Karma. A Universal Law that guarantees what comes around goes around. So this makes no sense, because the Universe knows no forgiveness. What you do to others, will come back to you.
On the other hand, it is the Christians that believe that you can rape and murder a child, and as long as you accept Jesus as your savior, all will be forgiven. They go to Heaven anyhow. So which is not taking responsibility for their action.

What you put out, comes back to you.
Most pagans believe that this happens 10 fold!

I do not believe this. I'm not a christian but I believe that there are consequences for all actions. I wouldn't use the word pay, but there will be rewards and consequences for the good and bad things we do.

I don't think it's a common belief. It sounds more like a poor attempt at criticism, along the lines of 'Those people don't believe that (or behave as though) there are consequences to their actions'. Implying, I guess, that 'those people' are somehow irresponsible. It would be cruelly unjust of me to judge that there was an implication that those who believe in there being consequences to their actions think they are somehow morally superior to those who 'do not'.
So I wont make that judgement.

I don't know if it is a commonly held belief or not, but it's not biblical.
1 Cor. 3:10-15
10 According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. 11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

What we do and say will be judged, we reap what we sow.

Didn't you know that's why so many Christians are so pious? They can sin their whole life and as long as they repent on their death bed, its OK. Christians hold the belief of Christ much higher than actually being a good person.

Many Christians seem to think that way. But it's the Fundamentalist/Evangelical, Conservatives who go around sprouting that garbage day in and day out. I don't see many Liberal Christians saying that.

I hope it's not a common belief because that is not why the atheists or people I know, and plenty others, are not christian.

I think, you have a misunderstanding of the christain, belief.
I don't think ,they mean they won't have to pay, for what they say or do. I think they are referring to, Is the way they feel about life. Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone has to pay, at some point in time.
