Advil always works for me, get the liquid gel it works faster!

It probably depends on what caused the back pain. If it's due to a pulled muscle, Ibuprofin which is an anti-inflamatory, will get down the swelling in the strained muscle.

It also helps to put an icepack or one of those chilled gel packs on your back. It really helps with strained muscles by reducing swelling.
