Although the hydrochloric acid in the stomach is powerful, the coin will not digest totally as it is metal and the acid is mixed with other digestive juices. It should eventually pass - but it may not be pretty or pain free. I would surely take the kid to the doc for advice, just in case he is small - it could get lodged somewhere or aggrivate the intestines.

Dont worry too much, kids swallow things like quarters all the time...but if he craps out two dimes and a nickel, then I would start worrying.

As the old folks say, " it'll all come out in the wash". The child will poop out the quarter eventually. Same with any coin swallowed. It works through the path and out. May take some time. If she's still worried, I suggest ER and let them decide what to do. Mom to 3.

Well, they either need to have it removed or see if it's passed. If the child is small, his intestines may not be wide enough to allow the quarter to pass and it should be removed before it causes irreparable damage. I'd take him ti the er or another doctor for a second opinion.

my 18 month old recently swallowed a penny and it got lodged in his esophagus and they life-flighted him to kansas city,mo to have it removed, but his never went down to his tummy.it should eventually come out if it's made it's way down,it's not gonna hurt him.and stomach acid is not going to digest a quarter....come on now!its not a super big deal and if your friend isn't happy with the dr's--she should take him to another doc.good luck!

i might take him to the er to work out in the event that they might removie it with a scope. this is somewhat painless. 1 / 4 sitting in the tummy too lengthy might desire to deliver approximately different problems. The acid won't have the skill to digest it, the tummy can flow it, besides the fact that if it is not likely.

your stomach acid is not strong enough to break up and 'digest' metal! Just give him some time- it will go through his system and come out- he may have even pooped it out already and nobody saw it- it could have been enveloped in his crap-

The doctors are probably just waiting to see if it passes on its on so they don't have to put the lil boy through surgery. It should pass but if not he'll definately need surgery to remove it.

either go to a doctor whom is able to make a medical decision which the first didnt do and that is concerning on a different level.....or plenty of clear fluids and a ruffage(greens, bran, leafy vegs.)diet until you locate the quarter in his stool.

I find it hard to believe that a doctor wouldn't know what to do! He will most likely pass it and if not then she better find a doctor that knows what to do.

You should take him to the ER immediately. Get a medical professional that knows what to do, becasue I can imagine that the pain would be terrible.
