Sure they do. Its a natural thing for a cat do do. They don't purr for our sakes.They purr for many different reasons. Mostly because they are happy and content.

No. Cats purr when people are around. Cats pur mostly when they are given a lot of attention and when someone pets them then they also purr.

I've had cats that I could hear purring when they didn't know anyone is around. When I was a kid we had a cat who purred so loud you could hear him in a different room.
They purr when they are contented, but some cats also purr when they are in pain or suffering. Usually when they're happy, though.

Get a video camera and try it out. I bet they purr when other cats are around, but Im not sure if they would do it all by themselves.

I don't know about purring, but my cat likes to knead things when nobody's around. I often walk in on him kneading a blanket like a little baker, cute as can be.

my cat will meow when im home alone and dont show attention... and she will purr at night time alot when we all are sleeping...
