How long do these withdrawl symptoms last? I was on 300mg of effexor for 2 years and now wanting to go off, my doctor gave me different dosages to slowly wean myself off. I took my last 37.5mg pill 2 weeks ago, and have been feeling dizzy and wierd brain surges in my head or something, body aches--I feel like I'm 90 years old! And I'm only 34..My doctor said the only way to stop that feeling was to take a one time dosage of 90mg of Prozac, so I did and it has helped. I am not dizzy any more, but I still feel not right. Any know how long these withdrawl symtoms last? Or tried anything that has worked for them? I can't feel like like this!! I am an almost single mom of 3 girls ages 4 and under, and I just can't feel like this!!! I'm sure no one else can too. So if there is any helpful advice out there I would love to here it/
Thanks.

Usually all the withdrawl symptoms go away in 7-10 days of hell. I find its sometimes easier to switch to Wellbutrin for a month and then stop the Wellbutrin. Welbutrin will give you energy and I find you can start and stop it real easy, not like some other SSRIs.

Just remember those withdrawl symptoms do eventually go away. Have friends around that you can call for support.

Poor thing... im sorry you are going through this.

It takes time... Just remember that the introduction of yet another drug, two more years down the line may lead you to this feeling all over again as they all wear off eventually and lose their effectiveness.

Request therapy less the drugs completely.

It is never a good idea to go off anything cold turkey but do you really want to go through this in another few years? It is like de toxing off an illegal substance... You will feel totally out of whack for a while and eventually your body will readjust itself and you'll feel somewhat normal again.

In the meantime, if you are not manic or Bi Polar. Ask if you can take something called Sam-E. It is over the counter and works great and also helps Liver function and joint health at the same time.

Ask... Also, be sure and take supplements that contain the spectrum of B vitamins and Amino acids. It will help take the edge off.

With all of the years you have been on drugs...

Isin't it about time you started getting better without them?

Call your doctor immediately and don't be alarmed if they put you on a different drug (usually prozac) to get rid of the withdrawal symptoms. They will wean you off the other drug after a few days and you should feel much better. Effexor withdrawal symptoms are dreadful and sometimes will not go away on their own. Sometimes Wellbutrin is a good maintainence drug (simultaneously and after going off the other) - it's a lot easier on you than the others and it gives just a little boost of energy if you are dragging from depression.
Please, call your doctor immediately!

The rist two weeks on nothing was ok, the next two weeks were not so very nice at all. brin shivvers, hearing sounds louder, and weepy all the time. I went back to Doc and he gave Lustral which have been great. I am stable not for the last 6 weeks or more.

Oh my gosh! I have been trying to explain the brain "surges" forever! I still have them sometimes, and I haven't been on effexor in 4 years. I went to a neuorologist, and they put me on zoloft to diminish the effects. It is awful. I feel for you, I laid on my floor and cried for hours daily as the withdrawls wore down. I won't take it any more because of that. I am now on zoloft and cymbalta. Good luck. Your not alone.
