If you are just starting out, just get the basics. You can always get more later when you get to know the dog a little better. So think: eating, sleeping, walking & grooming. Bowls, a crate, a bed (though not necessary--usually a blanket will do), collar, leash, brush & shampoo (start with hypoallergenic or puppy shampoo). Foods: You don't want to go real cheap, but you don't need to spend your families entire grocery bill on it either. Wellness, Blue Buffalo, or anything better should be good. Personally, I think pugs & Poms would be good starter dogs, but they are all nice breeds. Congratulations on your new addition!

Petsmart used to have a link on their website. Your local vet could also give you a list of all that you'd need.

Give you some advise.... get your dog on all natural dogg food ASAP.... goto a little shop who carries it. Petsmart and all the big name places carry bad food.... alot of the problems with dogs go back to the food.
