Basically train beagle to bark on command using treats or cherios(lo fat). After he barks once when prompted treat. Gradually when he associates the voice AND/OR HAND COMMAND with the word bark, you lengthen the time between barks. Gradually when he understands this, introduce new command word and HAND SIGNAL for STOP.Repeat this until dog will stop barking or whatever the minute he sees your hand signal.(you might not be in earshot or feel like shouting). Eventually introduce Quiet Hand Signal, voice command and reward for longer and longer periods of silence. Stop rewarding the barking on command.

Nope! That is what beagles are bred to do. They chase prey ( usually raccoons) up a tree and bark so the hunter can locate them and kill the beast. Any one is prey to a dog not allowed to hunt but there is no dog on earth more mouthy than a beagle unless it is a dachshund. So many good dogs end up in shelters when they are really a hunter instead of a companion animal. Sad, isn't it? Good Luck and God Bless

Beagles bark a lot compared to many other dogs. It is part of their nature. He needs firm training and needs to know that you, the owner, are not in danger. Say "NO BARK" and whatever corrective action you normally use then reward him.

you bought a hunting dog that has been bred for generations and generations to run, sniff and BARK - should never have bought a dog without first researching what it was bred to do...... never buy a dog on looks alone...... this one , i am afraid , is a no win..... you will have to keep him in the house more or you can buy one of those nylon muzzles ( the dog can still drink water with it on) and it might make his bark a little quieter

I have the same problem with my boxer-lab mix. She barks at everyone, animals and even at nothing whenever she's outside. My only solution to this is to supervise her, do not let the dog be alone and you need to yell at the dog, and do not let it get away with barking anytime. If it doesnt listen and keeps barking, then u could try spraying water at it outside, or simply take it inside.

Well, there's two kinds of barking. There's "I want to play with you" and there's "Get away from my yard". He's probably being territorial. When he barks at someone just yell NO at him in a deep voice (like you're serious about it). Right now, he thinks he's doing a good thing by protecting your property.

You can try to read some dog obedience books. I think barking can be lessened but never really stopped.

Water pistol on standby at all times. Whenever he does it a little squirt on the nose. You'll find that only after a couple of days the problem is solved. (As long as you are consistent and squirt straight away every time).
If you shout at him, he'll interpret this as YOU also barking and it may encourage him as YOU are the pack leader.

They have a sonic training collar that you can use to train your dog. It is humane and comes in all sizes for every kind of dog. You can find them at PetCo or online. Make sure it is a sonic collar and not a shock collar. Good Luck!!!
