I have thought about updating my computer to Windows Vista but have heard some bad things about it. Is there any specific reason to update? Is it worth it?

i heard that a lot of programs and games on XP won't work on Vista, but it will surely straighten up. I would not upgrade right now. Stick with XP or you can try out linux :)

yes, its much better, but much more confusing, and takes up a lot of memory on your hard drive. I think its worth it, but if you stay with windows XP, it should last you about another 5 years before it really gets outdated, so its a win win situation really
