Mormons also believe that jews came over to the americas in saucer-shaped boats, and were the ancestors of all native americans. There is no historical or archaeological evidence to support this, and a TON of evidence (including genetic) that shows it's wrong.
Mormons also believe (and I'm quoting), "As man now is god once was, and as god now is man may become." That means they think god at one time was just a guy on a planet like this one, was a good mormon, was resurrected to the highest level of heaven, and was given his own earth to create and rule over. He made spirit babies with his multiple resurrected wives, put those spiritis in all of us, and runs things. If you're a good mormon (male!) on this earth, you can get resurrected to the highest level of heaven, get your own multiple resurrected wives to have sex with and make spirit babies, and get your own earth to create and rule over.
There is no evidence of any kind to support this belief.
Mormons also believe that at some point (soon?) the US government will "hang by a thread," and mormons will step in and save the country, running it by mormon principles. Yet another reason not to vote for Mitt Romney.
All religions have illogical, ridiculous, and contradictory beliefs. Mormons just seem to have more than some other religions :) You'll find a lot more things in the book of mormon that make no sense...not surprising at all given its origin.
Peace.

I am Mormon, so let me clarify this from the other bizzare answers you have been recieving from nonmembers:
When Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are refered to as "one, " it is not meant in a literal sense. We believe that The Father and Only Begotten Son are 2 separate beings. What this means is (as well as in the bible, may I add) that both Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are united and one in purpose, not in being. They are for the same cause.

CULT? That guy needs to look up the definition of cult. Any who, God the father is one being, God the Son (J.C.) is another being and God the Holy Ghost is a third being. We believe in the Holy Trinity. It doesn't contradict. You just don't understand the language used in that verse. Re-read it. If your not praying while you read, your only going through the actions. You will benefit nothing.

One of the most basic beliefs we, as Mormons, have is found in the 1st Article of Faith. it states:
We believe in God the Eternal Father, and in his Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
We believe that the father and the son are two different beings and that the Holy Ghost is a personage of spirit. Joseph Smith gave an account of the First Vision, as we call it, declaring what he saw in the grove was two separate beings. He says in Joseph Smith History 1: 17:
I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!
There were two people he saw: the Father and the Son.
I hope this helps!

Joseph Smith was borderline 51/50 i mean who leads all those people to a dry salt lake bed and says ''This is it''. I don't believe any of their crap there are no more books in the bible. The book of Mormon is false they teach their people about their own writings

interesting fact - joseph smith, the founder of the mormons, was also a 33rd degree freemason, and also belonged to the rosicrucians.
he tells us that he got a pair of xray specs from an angel, walked up to a hill, xrayed it, saw there were some gold discs in it, dug them up, and thanks once again to the specs, translated them.
was LSD around then?
