A new method that is safe and effective for all ages:
Buy CEPACOL liquid soap (available at any drugstore cheap) Cover your head with this and water as if washing your hair but do not rinse it out. Blowdry your hair and wait 30 minutes wash it out and repeat the process once more. This soap will form a vacuume around the lice and nits and will kill them. Treat everyone in the house at the same time. There are no side effects

Nothing just kills it. Get that RID stuff that they sell in the stores and comb out gel, buy the "MEGA nit comb" treat the hair and comb through it with the comb out gel. DON'T forget to spray the furniture, strip the beds, wash all of the clothing, throw the pillows and stuff in a trash bag and spray it down with the lice furniture spray. Sweep the carpets (and anything else that can be swept).
Retreat the hair in 7 days and do all of the same stuff mentioned above.
Once you have it completley gone....buy COCONUT Shampoo...BUGS HATE IT!
Good luck...it takes alot to get rid of lice!

Unfortunately this is because they are now resistant to almost anything on the market! They may still be dealt with by some of the older, and slightly more toxic preparations like benzyl benzoate. If you are really stuck a good, STEEL, nit comb may be the only answer, plastic ones are useless. I noticed the other day that Sainsbury's are currently stocking an excellent one, I suspect this is because they have picked up on the need.

firstly it would help knowing if either of your daughters (or yourself as you have to treat them!^_^) are asthmatic as the most effective treatments are the alcohol based liquids that are left on overnight such as Derbac M. the best course of action is to treat both of them in a well ventilated area, leave it on overnight and then treat them again around 10 days after to ensure that you nab any hatchlings before they are mature enough to lay eggs themselves. in between it is wise to condition the hair and comb through it with a nit comb. the egg cases stick to the hair and will not come out with combing but will fall out with time the white ones further down the hair have either hatched or are dead as they are not close enough to the warmth of the scalp. unless you have definatly found lice in the hair so not treat anyone else as precaution as this leads to a build up of resistance to treatments in new straiins. i have also heard that plating the hair tightly and covering it in hair spray is good because the lice cannot move through the hair :S

Have you tried washing the hair and combing conditioner through it,my friends kids have long hair and she said it works. Or an electric nit comb,it's like a flea comb but with batteries. My son has had them once and i just shaved the lot off,but if it's a girl you can't really do that.

You may have to buy more of the shampoo you first used if the lice is still present.
