Ok, Im a sophomore in high school, and for freshmen, and the first part of sophomore year, I received alot of D's and F's out of laziness. Now in my second semester, I have good grades , is there any chance that if I continue to get good grades that I can still get into college ?

I lived in japan for 3 years because my parents are in the military, so moving back to the states after freshmen year took a little adjusting.

If you made half D's and half F's your first three semesters, and then made B's for the remaining five semesters, you would end up with about a C- cumulative GPA. Half A's and half B's would give you a solid C.
More importantly, colleges consider extenuating circumstances, and you'll have a chance to tell them that your poor grades were in part due to culture shock (and having such a unique experience as living in another country may make you stand out to them in a positive way!). Also, If you start out with bad grades and then they improve consistently, that looks much better than starting with good grades and letting them drop. It shows them that your work ethic has improved and that you have the capacity to do well and are currently striving to do so.

You can always get into college. In California, if you go to one of the junior colleges, you are guaranteed a position at State College. Getting into the University might be difficult with your grade point average, but you might qualify.

As for private colleges, it will depend on each one individually. Some require certain classes to be eligible, then lots of money (to be blunt). Others take only the highest scores, both in grades and entrance exams.

Technical schools are becoming very acceptable. People are going to colleges like Platt which are graphics animation specialists. Yes, you take general ed, but most the classes are art, design, animation, and graphics. You come out being able to work in the animation field.

You have lots of choices. Don't feel discouraged. Start looking towards your future, and determine your steps now. Then the path towards that goal will become clear.
