I had used the country theme in my house for many years. We are moving. I was wondering does anyone still use the shelves, hearts, etc...in their homes? I love this stuff but I am also bored with it. I have been in more and more homes that it seems there is very little on the walls. I also still like the Priscilla Curtains even though I know they are not used anymore. Any suggestions?

I think it's still a good look. I don't have a whole lot of really cutsey lacy things though. I have gone with a simplier look. Saltbox houses, weeping willow trees, simple battenburg lace bedskirts, an old water pump, lots of quality made baskets, a few family pictures with wide cream matting, white cabinetry, white crown molding contrasting a brightly colored wall, an old milk can, antique white ceramic figures of persian cats, and an old rusty barn star. These are few of the things I have used to make my home country. I do have to admit that there is not a lot on my walls. I didn't want to look cluttered. I have a few white shelves that resemble crown molding and have placed my husband's diplomas on them. It gives a nice architectual look as well a practical. Also, we used wood floors throughout the house and off white tile in the kitchen, laundry room. Simple white tile in the bathrooms. Think clean and simple, like Pottery Barn. But, Pottery Barn is too expensive for me. Target online is a great place to find a few shabby chic items that are not an overbearing lacey cutsey. But they also have lacey cutsey if that is what you want. I don't know that rustic items like antlers and logs would be my thing, but if I lived in the southwest and had that sort of veiw out my window, I would probably love it. I live in the midwest. If I could add anything to my decor, I would love to have an old piece of fretwork/ gingerbread from a historic home to hang on the wall. With peeling think layers of white paint. I wouldn't mind a set of tall shutters hinged together to hide the water heater.

Country style as you describe it., i.e., shelves, hearts, etc. (I'm pictuing lots of cutsey things...) will date your interior the way a popcorn ceiling and gold shag carpeting will. Country is still used but clean it up and packaway all the knick-knacks. No clutter, choose and use only the items you really love. Add in another style for an eclectic look. I myself like cowboy country (I collect Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show items) and despite having alot of things, I have only 5 or 6 items placed throughout my house relating to Buffalo Bill. I have a huge log bed but soften it with a long floral dust ruffle, solid duvet cover and a Chief Joseph Pendleton blanket folded over the footboard. I have 2 vintage french floral prints on each side of the bed and a round off-white night table next to one side of the bed. Directly across from the bed on the wall is an old framed panoramic photograph print of "Cowgirls at the 1911 Pendleton Rodeo." On the night table I have a vintage style lamp with crystals and on a distressed and painted off-white dresser I have an antler lamp. I use cream colored plantation blinds in the window and a valance that matches the floral bed ruffle. I've mixed styles in my bedroom to keep it from looking like a theme park but still managed to keep the cowboy look I love predominant.

I think you'll find inspiration for your style in magazines that are still targeted toward country living, but the latest version seems not as cluttered. Color on your walls with simple, off-white priscilla curtains and white baseboards and trim would look nice. A few well-placed pictures and/or artifacts would look good--less is more, as my daughter-in-law likes to say!

The shelves with hearts would be okay in a little girls room, not in the main part of the house.
