My elderly neighbors TV just stopped working. That's pretty much of an emergency in this neighborhood where elderly don't get out much anymore.
Its a Zenith Z25X22S and he says he got it recently, but he's in his 80's and sometimes I think recently might be 10 years or maybe 15.
I can hear sound and can change channels but within 10 seconds it shuts itself off as though it is protecting itself from overheating ???
Any ideas ?

thanks
Charlie

It's probably got a short somewhere in the circuitry, my guess would be in the power supply, but that's only a guess. Problem is that they don't fix TVs anymore, you replace them. The cost for a service tech to look at it will be like $50-$100/hour, the cost to fix it is greater than the cost to replace it.

The good news is that the price of old CRT type TVs is really reasonable now. You can probably replace it with one for 1/2 or less of what they paid for that one. Matter of fact I have a nice 32" Sony that I'd love to sell;)

Looks like the circuitry may be shorted somewhere. You may need to take it to a TV repair shop. Its probably one tiny resistor or transistor that controls the power to the tubes.
