don't buy a cat. Go to a local shelter and adopt one.

I agree that getting a cat at shelter is the best way to go. Breed doesn't matter so much with cats. Though kittens are fun, I do think adopting a young adult cat is best for first time cat owners. Kittens can be a lot of work and have a lot of energy. Also, you can get a much better idea of the cat's personality as an adult and whether it is naturally a shy reserved cat or an outgoing fun one. Also, some adult cats (especially older females) don't take well to having a kitten brought into a home and you might have a better chance with another adult cat. Also, everybody wants the cute kittens and the adult cats who are great are often overlooked in shelters.

i love cats and i had a lots of them before. I really hope that u can take the first step to accept cats into ur life.
It's up 2 u whether u want to buy a cat or not but i suggest u adopt one from any sh ether.
anyway, i respect ur choice...
one more,
if u plan 2 keep a cat for a long time, u can buy/ adopt kittens, if u don't then just keep an adult cat, that should be no problems. Kittens are more playful... they may mess up ur place(of course some may not).
it doesn't really matter what breed of cat one may keep, as long as u love ur cat and ur cat loves u.
Really hope that u can keep a very nice cat, that can even be ur soul partner..
Best wishes from me..

My favorite breeds are the mixed ones!!! You should adopt a cat. The Humane Society is full of loving and adorable cats of all ages that deserve a loving and caring home. If you adopt one you will not only be adding an important addition to your home you will also be saving a life. Good luck.

My husband and I have 4 cats and they range in ages from 10 to 13 years. We never planned on having so many but it just worked out that way. Our oldest cat is Pouncie and she is some what of a recluse. She only comes out when she wants food and and has to use the the litter box. Our next cat is Shana and she is the most verbal one. She doens't care that it is 5:00 a.m. in the morning. When she wants to eat you better get your butt up and move it to the kitchen. Our oldest boy is Whiskers and he is fairly laid back. It doesn't take much to please him. Plenty of food, fresh water, and a scratching post makes him happy. Then there is Kirby. He is our youngest but our fattest. When he wants attention you better be there and ready to give it to him. He has no problem clearing off the table and making room for himself. As I am typing he is clearing off my desk. I can't tell you how much I love my cats. They have been there for me through the good times and the bad. They are nonjudgmental. They don't care if your fat or your skinny, rich or your poor, (as long as you can feed them) they love you no matter what. When you decide to get a cat take a trip to your local shelter. I bet you'll find what your looking for there. Good luck.

Please consider adopting a cat. There are a lot of great cats at shelters that need a home. I just adopted one about a month ago. He is a sweetheart and just wants to be loved. I feel so good about giving him a second chance on life.

Shelter cats need a home more than pet stores or breeders need your money. Save a life and adopt a cat instead.

Yes, but I would adopt from somewhere like petfinder.org.
And it's MUCH better to get 2 cats/kittens instead of one. They will have fewer issues with anxiety and boredom when you're gone to work or school. Plus they remain more active and in better health. And you're saving 2 little lives.
Plus what's cuter than watching 2 little furry kittens pounce one another.

I love cats, i've had at least one all my life. I've never bought one, but it seems at least where i live there are always free kittens or cats being given away.. I have two short haired cats and one long haired right now. Love them all. Either watch for free kitties or go to a local animal shelter. :)

Just know what you are in for.
Cats don't require as much upkeep as dogs but still need you to survive. You are going to spend money on food and litter (unless you manage to train your cat to poop outside) so make sure you can afford it. Also, take in consideration what in your house the cat could destroy. My three cats don't like scratching furniture, but go after the corners of walls instead. Make sure that you can also afford any type of medical treatment it may need.
