I just did some of these with my daughter. Boil one cup and two tablespoons of water. Put the flat rock in the bowl you will be growing crystals in. When the water boils, add most of the crystals and stir to dissolve. Then pour everything into the other bowl. Cover it tightly and let it sit for one hour, then open and sprinkle a the remaining crystals onto the rock. Then just let it evaporate.
As a note, you will need a very small bowl to get the water deep enough. I eventually got two packets and made them together.
