Looks like if Western countries don't pull off the 'victories' the press hoped would happen in ten minutes, they decide to take it out on wounded soldiers who return in order to be operated on. In the UK, we now have such people who are being made to wait to be operated on. And if some have been killed by 'friendly fire', never mind - it is a war, not a playground bust-up. No wonder the awol amount has risen. Some moronic Member of Parliament a fortnight ago decided to tell us black soldiers were ill-prepared for fighting, but it seems to me the government doesn't like ANYONE in uniform. Would they respect soldiers more if Iraq was taken as easily as the Falklands was?

you decrease and pasted, so i am going to too.... No, Platoon is a blatant antiwar/anti-American piece of Communist propaganda. We were continuously preached at that we had to win the hearts and minds of the people, and the habit of maximum American troops replaced into suitable, if fairly aloof. maximum individuals felt like we were struggling with the Vietnamese conflict for them and there have been time-honored emotions the Vietnamese could do more advantageous for themselves. nonetheless, the media comments and antiwar propaganda of time-honored American atrocities were a great deal exaggerated (i'm no longer putting forward none occurred), and minor compared to the recurring atrocities dedicated on the civilian inhabitants with assistance from the Communists that were omitted with assistance from the media. in the top the hearts and minds campaign worked, and the individuals definitely left a fairly strong effect on the South Vietnamese inhabitants. immediately American travelers are welcomed in Vietnam (pretty the old South Vietnamese area of the country) with open hands. What replaced into South Vietnam is perchance the most professional-American region in ALL of Southeast Asia (such because the Philippines and Thailand). The time of the individuals is remembered as a time of relative freedom and fiscal prosperity regardless of the conflict.

Sounds like you are dealing with the same issues we're dealing with in the US. Our soldiers are treated disrespectfully when they return from Iraq.
They are sent there ill prepared, poorly equipped and then expected to stay for longer than they had been made to believe they'd be there.
They come home and if they need medical care, the paperwork if horrendus. The facilities are filthy. Over 33% of our soldiers return home with post traumatic stress syndrome (1/3!) and it's not being dealt with. These are huge concerns. The majority of Americans believe that our soldiers are heros. They deserve to be treated as such. They should have AT LEAST the same benefits as those serving in the white house. After all, they are putting their lives on the line. It's the least our country can do for them.
BRING THEM HOME!

You think the Falklands was easy? You evidently weren't there.

What you are seeing is simply the effect of the Liberals - in essence, a fifth column in any nation - and the Media, the most effective weapon the terrorists have.

Constant repetition of doom and gloom saps the morale of any country and our enemies know this. The Media distorts every piece of information out there (Read the Guardian article on a recent battle where over 20 terrorists were killed with the loss of 2 US troopers - it reads like a major defeat for the US) in order to make it seem like we're losing. The Libs work the political angle to cut off funding, support, anything...

Time for you to step up to the plate and start fighting the morale battle at home, friend.

Orion

EDIT: You can see a lovely example of this above. Distorted facts, a doom-n-gloom perspective ending with a plea to cut, run, and give the fight to the enemy. You'll note the side screaming "BRING THEM HOME" is the same side that spits on them when they return, the same side trying to cut their funding, the same side sending aid to al Queda. Doesn't take a genius to figure out what their real goal is.

You want to support the troops? LET THEM WIN!

No we wont, if we had a strong leader like Maggie as PM British troops would have done & dusted the job by now just like we did in the Falklands. Its not our boys fault the jobs not done but the British government & they would have done it without needing the US forces. That US forces just hamper things for our boys as they are always having to watch there own backs from there allies.

I don't remember the British ever smirking at how the Yanks treated their troops!
British troops are coming home to the same NHS the rest of the country uses!
The Falklands war was fought to release British citizens from an invading army!
The Iraq war was fought under false pretenses and against the wishes of not only the majority of the British public but also the international rules of engagement signed by the British at the end of WW2
So what are you trying to stir up with such a misinterpretation of the facts?

I don't think our "boys" (apparently girls don't take any part) are being treated any worse than anyone else in society. There are flaws in our health service, police force, benefit system and many other areas which are leading to many members of society being ill treated, why should forces members be exempt? Until Human Beings are created with the inability to make any mistakes then the services they work in will continue to be imperfect. We're lucky we weren't born a thousand years ago so shhhhhhh please.
